CAIRO, January 26. /TASS/. Egypt is trying to reach a balance in its foreign policy in terms of its relations with Russia and the United States, Alexey Pushkov, the chairman of the international committee of Russia’s State Duma lower parliament house, said on Tuesday.
He told journalists after a meeting with speaker of Egypt’s House of Representatives Ali Abdel Aal that "a revival in bilateral relations" was one of the topics for discussion. "There was a period when Egypt embarked on a course towards distancing from Russia in favor of closer contacts with the United States. It looks like this period is over," he said.
"I think Egypt is trying to build a right balance in its foreign policy between relations with the United States and Russia. As they say in America, it doesn’t want to put all eggs in one basket," Pushkov noted. "The ‘Russian basket’ is seen in Egypt as promising."
