YALTA, March 27. /TASS/. Western countries have no other option but to abandon eroding the foundations of the United Nations (UN), Kirill Logvinov, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Department of International Organizations, stated.
"The Western minority will continue attempting to replace the Charter of the world organization with the so-called rules-based order (which is actually based on double standards) until it finally recognizes that the only way forward is to stop destabilizing the foundations of the UN and return to an equal dialogue with all interested parties," the diplomat remarked, speaking at the International Scientific and Diplomatic Congress marking the 80th Anniversary of the Yalta (Crimean) Conference of the Big Three Allied Powers.
According to Logvinov, some Western states impose their own rules on the world, without regard for other countries.
"In response, Russia will continue its resolute efforts to consolidate the approaches of those states that advocate the return of universal respect for international law, the restoration of the central coordinating role of the UN, the preservation of common values, the reaffirmation by all members of the world organization of their commitment to the enduring just principles of the UN Charter in their entirety, completeness, and interconnectedness, without any hierarchy," Logvinov noted. "Only once a common agreement is reached can the United Nations begin to restore trust, overcome divisions, reach a consensus on most issues on the agenda, and make the international situation more stable. If we work together this way, we will manage to bring into practice the ‘spirit of multipolarity’ and the ‘spirit of Yalta’, as enshrined in the key provisions of the UN Charter," Logvinov concluded.
