Russia knows how to defend its elections from outside attacks — Kremlin spokesman

Dmitry Peskov said that the announcement of the election date did not affect any processes inside the country, as "active work in Russia goes on every day"

MOSCOW, December 8. /TASS/. Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov is certain that the election campaign will be a target of attacks from outside but Russia has long learned to defend itself.

"Undoubtedly, the election campaign will be a target of attacks. We are aware of this with 100-percent certainty. We understand this. But the system works smoothly. We have already learned to defend ourselves from such attacks," he said, answering a question from the daily Izvestia.

Peskov said that the announcement of the election date did not affect any processes inside the country, as "active work in Russia goes on every day."

Earlier on Friday, Putin announced that he would run in the presidential election in 2024. In response to requests from participants in the ceremony for Heroes of Fatherland Day for taking part in elections Putin remarked that he had different thoughts on this score, but "today it is impossible to do otherwise" and he would agree to his nomination.

Russia’s presidential election will be held over three days, on March 15-17, 2024. Putin, whose second consecutive and fourth cumulative term of office is expiring, is eligible to run again.
