Geopolitical balance of power keeps shifting in direction unfavorable to West, Lavrov says

The Russian top diplomat emphasized that international relations today are experiencing "truly epochal tectonic shifts"

MINSK, October 26. /TASS/. The geopolitical balance of power continues to shift in a direction that is not favorable for the West, a fact that Western elites are now beginning to acknowledge, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in Minsk at the plenary session of a high-level international conference titled "Eurasian Security: Reality and Prospects in a Transforming World."

"The geopolitical lay of the land continues to change, and not in favor of the historical collective West. And representatives of Western elites, who have begun talking about the end of the post-Cold War era, are now beginning to acknowledge this, including publicly," Lavrov said.

According to the top diplomat, the relevant trends have been noted by both US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron. "These major trends also affect the international processes that are unfolding on our common continent, in Eurasia," Lavrov added.

He emphasized that international relations today are experiencing "truly epochal tectonic shifts." "A fairer, multipolar world order [system] is emerging before our eyes. It is based on the cultural and civilizational diversity of the modern world, the natural right of peoples to determine their own paths and models of development, and realizing the most important principle of the UN, as enshrined in its Charter: the sovereign equality of nations," the Russian Foreign Minister said.

According to Lavrov, it is already "a sign of the times" that more and more countries in the Global South and East are striving to strengthen their sovereignty in all areas, as well as to implement a pragmatic and nationally oriented course in global affairs, which is "clearly reflected in the recent rapid expansion of BRICS.".
