MOSCOW, April 11. /TASS/. An Il-76 plane of the Russian emergencies ministry landed in the flood-hit southern Urals city of Orsk, delivering 35 tons of aid for residents of the affected territories, the ministry’s press service told TASS.
"An Il-76 special plane of the emergencies ministry landed in Orsk city airport," the press service said.
The plane carries food, personal care items, medicines, blankets, rubber boots and bottled water.
Floods unseen for decades were reported in three Russian regions: Orenburg, which is the hardest-hit, as well as Kurgan and Tyumen. Over 13,000 houses in total were flooded. The relief effort is led by a governmental commission under the chairmanship of emergencies minister Alexander Kurenkov. Flood risk is also high in the Russian regions of Tver, Kostroma, Kemerovo and Altai.
The disaster also affected ten out of the 17 regions of Kazakhstan, which shares a border with the flood-hid Orenburg region. The two neighbors coordinate their disaster response at the governmental level.
