Russia aims to raise electric power import substitution to 90-95% — Deputy PM Novak

"In the electric power sector, the substitution level is 80-85%," Alexander Novak said

MOSCOW, October 20. /TASS/. The level of import substitution in the Russian electric power sector currently stands at 80-85%, with the government aiming to reach 90-95% in the coming years, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said during a meeting at Power Machines JSC, according to the government press service.

"Russian power engineering enterprises have always been renowned for their own manufacturing, and work is currently underway to replace individual components of foreign equipment and develop domestic large-and medium-capacity gas turbine units. In the electric power sector, the substitution level is 80-85%. The task is to reach 90-95% in the coming years," Novak said.

The deputy prime minister co-chaired the meeting with Igor Rudenya, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Russian President in the Northwestern Federal District. The participants discussed the development of power engineering and new technologies for Russia’s energy sector, and inspected the production facilities of the Leningrad Metal Plant.

Power Machines is mass-producing GTE-170 turbines, which are used to build new capacities for the Moscow region, the Far East, and Siberia.

Work on the prototype of the GTE-65 turbine is in its final stages, and preliminary design work has begun on a new F-class GTE-300 turbine. One of the latest developments is Russia’s first low-speed 1,255 MW turbine, which served as the basis for a new nuclear power plant unit launched in early 2026, the cabinet said.
