Hainan developing tariff-free aircraft engine repair business — media

According to the Hndaily newspaper, the services will be provided under the customs warehouse system, which allows foreign goods to be imported without paying duties and taxes

HAIKOU /China/, 26 October. /TASS/. The comprehensive free trade zone in the city of Haikou (the administrative centre of the southern Chinese province of Hainan) is taking active measures to develop the business of tariff-free repair of aircraft engines, the Hndaily newspaper reported.

According to the article, the services will be provided under the customs warehouse regime, which allows foreign goods to be imported without paying duties and taxes. According to the paper, this segment is growing rapidly: between January and September, Haikou customs recorded the import of 13 engines for repair, with a total value estimated at around 2 billion yuan (more than $280 million).

The customs office at Meilan International Airport, near where the repair facility is located, commented that engine maintenance is "an indispensable link in the aviation industry's supply chain, as well as an important guarantee for the normal operation of aircraft". The tariff-free service area is "linked to both national and international markets", which provides it with stable orders and allows it to constantly improve its competitiveness.

To ensure the efficiency of engine repair, Haikou Customs organises special studies with highly qualified experts and holds meetings with interested companies to explain, among other things, the measures for the repair of aircraft components imported into Hainan. In addition, potential customers are advised on the declaration process and risk prevention. As a result, customers can gain a better understanding of the strategic model and advantages of the free trade port.
