TASS special project ‘The Island of Hainan: A pilot free trade zone’ will be launched both in Russian and in English

ST. PETERSBURG, June 1. /TASS/. The launch of the special project dubbed ‘The Island of Hainan: A pilot free trade zone’ will be carried out at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum on June, 6, according to TASS Corporate Communications Depertment. 

The launch is a part of a joint initiative of the information agency and the Hainan Province’s Party Committee Propaganda Department, devoted to the Chinese island’s potential.

The main part of the presentation will be devoted to the free trade zone's (free trade port) presentation and investment projects on the island. The speakers, including TASS Deputy Director General Andrei Sokolov, Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee Sun Dahai, the province's top officials and other guests will present the Island of Hainan and answer the questions. 

The second part will focus on the island's tourism, culture and history. The event will be followed by the province's national ensemble performance. 

The Land of Promise 

TASS special project ‘The Island of Hainan: A pilot free trade zone’ will be launched both in Russian and in English. 

The project is divided into seven main sections, including information about the Hainan free trade zone, cultural and humanitarian relations, the cities of the island, healthcare and education, tourism, environment  - the diversity of flora and fauna.

In April 2018, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced that the party’s Central Committee had decided to support the creation of a pilot free-trade zone across the Island of Hainan.

The project is aimed at integrating the island into globalization and labor migration, to establish a solid innovative foundation that will enable the province of Hainan to develop. In order to do that, the local authotities intend to ensure preferential conditions for investors. New ideas and programs will be welcome, and the matter of scientific and research infrastructure in this region of China is a priority. 

By 2025, the Chinese government intends to create an "international center for tourism and consumption" on Hainan. In order to do so, the "Eastern Hawaii" with their unique natural landscapes, thick rainforests and great climate will establish a developed network of hotels, which blend perfectly with white sandy beaches stretching along the coastline. The combination of an exotic subtropical nature and a modern eco-friendly infrastructure will boost tourist inflow to the island from the most distant parts of the world. 

By 2050, according to the authorities, the island should become a unique international cluster with an advanced economy, developed tourism, top-notch scientific, technical and financial potential, and modern medicine. The branches of the best universities and offices of the most powerful corporations in the world will be located on the Island of Hainan. 

In 2018, more than 76 million foreign and Chinese tourists visited the Island of Hainan. 

China at SPIEF

About one thousand people will represent China at SPIEF this year. The delegation will include top government officials, representatives of state and private enterprises, mass media. China's President Xi Jinping will also participate in the forum's events. 

The 2019 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is being held on June 6-8. The forum’s motto this year is “Creating a Sustainable Development Agenda”. The organizer for SPIEF-2019 is the Roscongress Foundation.
