High-level arrangements for parliamentary elections underway in Tajikistan — CIS mission

Leonid Anfimov noted that the mission already visited two cities of the republic, namely Hisar and Tursunzoda, where it visited several polling stations, precinct and district election commissions

DUSHANBE, February 28. /TASS/. Preparations for the main voting day in the elections of deputies to the lower house of the Parliament of Tajikistan, which is scheduled for March 2, 2025, are proceeding at a high level, the head of the CIS (the Commonwealth of Independent States) mission of observers at the elections in Tajikistan said on Friday.

"I believe that everything proceeds at a very high level, on behalf of government agencies, local authorities, district, and precinct election commissions," Leonid Anfimov, who also serves as the CIS first deputy secretary general, told journalists.

He noted that the mission already visited two cities of the republic, namely Hisar and Tursunzoda, where it visited several polling stations, precinct and district election commissions.

"Everyone is busy and knows what to do, people are quite experienced, taking into account previous years of work in precinct election commissions, and district election commissions are made up of qualified people," Anfimov continued.

He also commented on the visit to the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums of Tajikistan. According to him, the commission has done enormous work on the preparation of precinct and district election commissions, organized seminars and training programs.

"In other words, people have received complete and comprehensive information, taking into account some innovations in legislation, electoral and international law," he said.

The head of the CIS mission of observers stressed that everyone is focused on the successful execution and outcome of elections.

"It is because everyone understands perfectly well that the future development of Tajikistan depends on these elections, on how the interaction of several branches of government, primarily the executive and legislative branches, will be carried out," Anfimov stated.

"And they must be operating jointly… for the sake of building a prosperous Tajikistan and a prosperous society in the future," he added.

Elections to the lower house of the Parliament of Tajikistan, representative bodies of regions, cities, districts, towns, and villages will be held on March 2, 2025, and elections to the upper house (Majlisi Milli) are scheduled for March 28. The previous elections to both chambers of the country’s parliament were held in March 2020.
