MOSCOW, November 19. /TASS/. No elections can be held in Ukraine while martial law is in effect, Vladimir Zelensky, whose presidential term expired on May 21, said.
"The constitution and laws prohibit elections amid martial law. No one in the world demands that. First, Ukraine needs a fair peace and only then will Ukraine hold a fair election," Yaroslav Zheleznyak, a Verkhovna Rada (parliament) member, wrote on his Telegram channel, quoting Zelensky as saying while unveiling his so-called resilience plan to the Rada.
Ukrainian officials and others suggested earlier that the country could hold general elections in 2025.
Russian President Vladimir Putin noted earlier that Ukraine was ignoring a ruling by its own Constitutional Court from May 2014, which stipulates a president’s term cannot cannot be extended.
