WASHINGTON, November 7. /TASS/. Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the US presidential election, because her party made wars and lawlessness its priority, says James Carden, retired diplomat and the former advisor to the US-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission.
"Donald Trump’s astonishing political comeback might come down to the fact that within the span of a decade the Democratic Party has transformed itself to one that prioritizes lawfare at home and warfare abroad," the expert told TASS.
He added that the "brilliant start" of Harris’ campaign was unable to cover for her "glaring weaknesses."
"Biden’s decision to drop out of the race energized the base and made some people forget that up until that point Harris had been a historically unpopular vice president," Carden noted.
The presidential election in the United States wrapped up on the morning of November 6 (Moscow time). The official outcome has not been announced yet, but, according to Fox News, Trump secured 277 electoral votes, with 270 necessary for victory. He has already declared himself the 47th President of the United States. House Speaker Mike Johnson called him a president-elect. Trump has already started receiving congratulations from foreign leaders. In addition to the President and Vice President, US voters also elected one third of the Senate, the entire House of Representatives and governors of 11 states and 2 territories.
