WASHINGTON, January 13. /TASS/. The United States launched a new attack on Houthi locations in Yemen, Reuters reported with reference to two officials from the US administration.
Earlier, the Houthi-owned Al Masirah TV channel reported that US and British military aircraft carried out a new airstrike on the Yemeni capital of Sanaa.
UK authorities have not yet confirmed the participation of British forces in the new strike.
On the night of January 12, the armed forces of the United States and the United Kingdom carried out strikes using aircraft, ships and submarines against targets of the Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) in a number of cities in Yemen, including Sanaa and Hodeidah.
US President Joe Biden said that the strikes were carried out in response to the "unprecedented Houthi attacks" in the Red Sea. The targets included missile sites, UAVs and Houthi radar stations.
Following the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Houthis announced that they would strike Israeli territory and prevent any ships tied to the country from passing through the waters of the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait until the operation in the Palestinian enclave was halted. The US military's Central Command estimates that the Houthis have attacked more than 20 civilian vessels in the Red Sea since mid-November.
The confrontation between government forces and Ansar Allah supporters has been going on in Yemen since August 2014. When in March 2015, a coalition led by Saudi Arabia invaded the country the conflict entered its most active phase. In April 2022, the parties to the conflict managed to agree on a truce, which expired on October 2, but consultations did not stop.
