BEIJING, November 22. /TASS/. Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister General Wei Fenghe discussed the crisis in Ukraine and the situation around the Korean Peninsula with Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin during a defense ministers meeting of ASEAN and its Dialogue Partners in Cambodia.

"The sides exchanged views on global and regional issues, the crisis in Ukraine, and the situation in the South China Sea and on the Korean Peninsula," China’s top brass said in a statement.

The two defense chiefs also discussed Taiwan and measures to prevent clashes between the armed forces of China and the United States.

Cambodia is hosting the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) in Siem Reap. The forum runs through November 23.

The Chinese and the US defense chiefs last met on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue security forum in Singapore in June. But relations between Beijing and Washington soured after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan in August, and dialogue between the two countries’ defense agencies was almost interrupted.
