WASHINGTON, October 9. /TASS/. The United States is ready to settle situation around the International Criminal Court (ICC) diplomatically, despite its sanctions against the Court, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement.
"However, neither the ICC nor States Parties have yet taken meaningful steps to address our concerns. Despite their inaction, we hold out hope for a diplomatic solution," the statement reads. "We have structured this action to provide an opportunity for States Parties to negotiate and present a solution to address our concerns. If these efforts do not bear fruit, we will continue to adjust accordingly."
"Our message is clear: the United States and its people are not subject to the jurisdiction of the ICC," the statement underlines. "Either the ICC will end its threats, or we will end the ICC. <…> If they do not, the United States will continue its campaign to dismantle the ICC, brick by brick, until Americans are threatened no longer."
The current US administration has already imposed sanctions against the ICC on several occasions. US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing restrictions on court officials on February 6, 2025. The US government has accused the ICC of wrongful actions against Washington and its allies, such as Israel. In particular, Washington insists that the court abused its authority by issuing unfounded arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and that country’s former defense minister, Yoav Galant. The executive order authorizes the imposition of financial and visa restrictions against ICC officials involved in investigations targeting U.S. citizens or their allies, as well as members of their families.
