Aim of thwarted attack against Metropolitan Tikhon was to delay Ukraine settlement — ROC

Earlier, the FSB announced that it had thwarted a terrorist attack orchestrated by Ukrainian security services against Metropolitan Tikhon (Shevkunov) of Simferopol and Crimea

MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. Delaying peace talks and escalating the Ukrainian crisis were the objectives behind the planned terrorist attack against Metropolitan Tikhon (Shevkunov) of Simferopol and Crimea, according to Vladimir Legoida, the head of the Moscow Patriarchate's Synodal Department for Relations between the Church and Society and Mass Media.

"Ukrainian secret services, along with a number of Western countries supporting them, deliberately targeted a hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church, further demonstrating the terrorist nature of their activities. It is possible that the thwarted terrorist attack was intended to escalate the confrontation and postpone peace talks," Legoida stated on his Telegram channel.

"We hope that this blatant act of terrorism will be adequately addressed by the international community and discussed at a meeting of the UN Security Council," Legoida emphasized.

Earlier, the FSB announced that it had thwarted a terrorist attack orchestrated by Ukrainian security services against Metropolitan Tikhon (Shevkunov) of Simferopol and Crimea. The detained suspects - one Ukrainian citizen and one Russian citizen - were recruited in mid-2024 via the messaging app Telegram. A criminal case has been initiated against both individuals, who are currently in custody.
