STOCKHOLM, March 2. /TASS/. The stone beneath the Little Mermaid statue, depicting the character of one of Hans Christian Andresen’s most famous fairy tales, was painted the colors of the Russian flag, Ekstra Bladet reported on Thursday.

The tabloid’s reporters took a picture of the tricolor at 7:00 a.m. local time (9:00 a.m. Moscow time) on Thursday.

The newspaper contacted the police, but the officer on duty said he was unaware if the incident had been reported to law enforcement authorities.

The statue, created by the sculptor Edvard Eriksen and modeled after his wife, Eline, was erected at Langelinie Pier in the Danish capital in 1913.
