NEW DELHI, December 12. /TASS/. Russia has delivered 55,000 tons of potassium chloride to Sri Lanka, the Russian Embassy in Colombo reported.

As the embassy notes, the fertilizers produced by the Russian group UralChem are intended to support the agricultural sector of Sri Lanka.

Of the total cargo, 50% of the fertilizers will be distributed among farmers growing rice and other crops, and the remaining half will go to the production of coconuts.

The embassy recalled that the transferred batch of fertilizers was on board one of the ships in the Gulf of Riga, which has not been able to leave the port since the beginning of 2022 due to illegal Western sanctions. As the Russian diplomatic mission stated, "this initiative underlines the strong bilateral ties between Russia and Sri Lanka and Moscow's commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to its friends in critical times.".
