MOSCOW, November 5. /TASS/. It makes little difference to Russia who wins the US presidential election, as both candidates are committed to a confrontational stance towards Russia, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated.
"In fact, Russia does not care about the outcome of this election, given the bipartisan consensus in the United States on confronting our country," she commented when asked about Russia’s position on the US presidential candidates.
According to Zakharova, if Washington's policy shifts after the election, Russia will be ready to consider any US proposals that do not contradict its interests. "In any case, Russia will firmly defend its interests, particularly when it comes to national security," she emphasized.
"It would be logical for whoever is in the White House, regardless of who they are, to focus on the challenges within their own country rather than creating problems thousands of miles from America’s shores," she added, wishing the American people to "overcome their democratic crisis and societal divisions."
The US election is scheduled for November 5, with voters choosing the president, governors in 11 states and two US territories, a third of the Senate, and all members of the House of Representatives. Republican candidate Donald Trump, who served as president from 2017 to 2021, is competing against Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, who has been vice president since January 2021. Trump, having lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden, is seeking a return to the White House.
