Russia concurs with IAEA: No direct threat to nuclear security at Zaporozhye plant so far

As Mikhail Ulyanov said, if the attacks on nuclear installations continue, the situation can change at any moment

MOSCOW, November 23. /TASS/. Russia agrees with the IAEA’s conclusions that despite Ukrainian strikes on a number of facilities on the premises of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (ZNPP), there is no direct threat to nuclear security at the facility but the situation can change at any moment, Russian Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov told TASS on Wednesday.

"We completely agree with the IAEA’s conclusions," the diplomat said, replying to a question on the matter. "So far, there is no direct threat to nuclear security at the ZNPP despite the strikes on a number of facilities on its premises delivered by the Ukrainian side. Yet, if the attacks on nuclear installations continue, the situation can change at any moment," he explained.

According to the envoy, on Monday, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi was right to assert that those attacking the nuclear facility are "playing with fire." "Urgent and effective measures are necessary to prevent the events from unfolding in a negative way," Ulyanov added.
