Afghanistan could face food shortages again this winter — diplomat

It was also noted that the main responsibility lies with the countries of the collective West

MOSCOW, November 16. /TASS/. The people of Afghanistan may again face shortages of food and essential goods this winter, Russian Special Presidential Representative for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov, who is also Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Second Asian Department, said on Wednesday at a Moscow-hosted international meeting on Afghanistan.

"The country’s population may again, as a year ago, face shortages of food and other essential goods," the diplomat said.

According to Kabulov, "in order to avoid this, some countries <…> have already been taking certain measures to provide humanitarian assistance."

"Nevertheless, we are convinced of the need for a comprehensive solution to Afghanistan’s economic problems. We think that the main responsibility lies with the countries of the collective West," he said adding, "Not only have they brought the country to its current miserable state for 20 years, but they also shamelessly carry on with its economic strangulation by freezing Afghanistan’s national assets.
