Putin lauds Jakarta’s G20 chairmanship in phone call with Indonesian president

MOSCOW, November 2. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call with his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo on Wednesday, praising Jakarta’s constructive and depoliticized chairmanship of the G20 group, the Kremlin press service said in a statement.

"The parties discussed the upcoming G20 summit, which is set to take place on the island of Bali on November 15-16. Russia lauded Indonesia’s constructive and depoliticized G20 chairmanship in terms of pressing issues such as efforts to strengthen energy and food security, ensure a balanced energy transition and the digital transformation of the global economy, as well as to improve healthcare," the statement reads.

In addition, Putin welcomed "Joko Widodo’s consistent personal position to promote a unifying agenda within G20," the Kremlin press service added.

The conversation was initiated by Indonesia.

When speaking with reporters on Monday, Putin said that he had not decided yet whether to attend the G20 summit.
