Russia says US denies medical help to Bout, Seleznev

Russia’s embassy said the US has responsibilities before Russians that are imprisoned in the country and called for urgent medical assistance for the Russians

WASHINGTON, May 21 /TASS/. Russia’s embassy in Washington on Friday said the US has for months stonewalled requests to provide medical assistance to Russians Viktor Bout and Roman Seleznev that are serving jail time in the US.

"We highlight the unacceptable situation associated with a denial to provide medical assistance to Russian citizens Bout and Seleznev that are incarcerated in US prisons," Russian diplomats said on Telegram. "The Russian continue to suffer from serious health issues. However, they are not given an opportunity to undergo a professional examination and obtain the necessary medicines."

"The US government has ignored requests by the embassy for months," the mission said. "We regard this indifference as unacceptable."

The diplomats said the US has responsibilities before Russians that are imprisoned in the country and called for urgent medical assistance for the Russians.
