YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, August 22. /TASS/. A felt seismic event has been recorded less than 100 km from Severo-Kurilsk located on the Paramushir Island in the Sakhalin Region, the federal research Center Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences said.
"An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 [occurred] 79 km south of the city of Severo-Kurilsk. It was felt in Severo-Kurilsk up to 3 points," the report says.
According to the researchers, the seismic event occurred at a depth of 59 km.
