NEW DELHI, March 18. /TASS/. Europe shows its hypocrisy by criticizing Hungary and India for buying Russian energy resources, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said.
"Europe is very hypocritical, because while we (Hungary - TASS) are under attack politically for buying gas from Russia, LNG deliveries from Russia to the western part of Europe have hit record heights last year," he pointed out at the 2025 Raisina Dialogue.
"Russia has increased its share in the Indian oil import from 2% to 35%. In the meantime, Germany has increased its oil imports from India by 11 times. What a coincidence! So European behavior is very hypocritical in this regard," the top diplomat added.
According to him, Hungary's national interests are of paramount importance. "The country's energy supply is a matter of national interest and national strategy. And we will not give up our national interest just because of some hypocritical political attacks from Brussels," Szijjarto emphasized.
"Nobody has so far proved to be able to come up with a more reliable and cheaper solution for us than Russia. Why would I change this cheap and reliable source to a more expensive and less reliable one? How would I explain it to the Hungarian people?" he pointed out.
"It is obvious that without the Russian supplies, without the Russian sources, we would not be able to supply the country. And this is not because of political taste, because of ideology or whatever. This is because of the reality," the Hungarian foreign minister said.
