Summer navigation on Russian inland waterways to open in April

The Azov-Don basin on the Don River and the Volga-Don basin in the Tsimlyanskoye Water Reservoir will be among the first to open navigation

MOSCOW, February 5. /TASS/. The summer navigation season on Russian inland waterways will kick off in April, the press service of the Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport, Rosmorrechflot, told TASS.

"The navigation on internal waterways usually starts in April but the timeline may differ from region to region, depending on weather conditions. The Azov-Don basin on the Don River and the Volga-Don basin in the Tsimlyanskoye Water Reservoir will be among the first to open navigation - on April 1 provisionally," the press service said.

The navigation on the Volga River and in the Volga Basin is also planned to start in early April. The Volga-Baltic Basin and the Amur Basin will see the navigation opening in late April - early May.

"The navigation will traditionally open later than for all others in the north and in Arctic regions of the country. For example, the navigation will be opened in June - July in the Ob-Irtysh Basin; the navigation will also begin in the second half of June in a number of sections of the Lena Basin," the authority added.
