SHANGHAI, August 26. /TASS/. The Chinese armed forces launched on Friday live-fire drills in the waters off East China’s Fujian Province which is opposite Taiwan, CCTV reported.
The waters of the Island of Muyu near Fuqing City are indicated as the drill zone. The forces and means involved are not disclosed, while coordinates for the drills can be found on the website of the Maritime Safety Administration of Putian. The live-fire exercises will last till Saturday.
China’s armed forces have conducted a series of military drills along the country’s coast since early August amid growing tensions in the Taiwan Strait following US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taipei on August 2-3. The Chinese Army has also held large-scale military maneuvers with missile firings in six areas around Taiwan. China also responded to a meeting by a delegation of US legislators on August 14-15 with a range of military exercises in the South China, Yellow and East China seas.
