Party of Regions congress to discuss situation in Donetsk region

DONETSK, April 16. /ITAR-TASS/. An extraordinary congress of deputies of all levels of the Party of Regions will be opened in Ukraine’s city of Donetsk at the Druzhba arena at 13:00 GMT on Wednesday. The organizing committee of the congress told ITAR-TASS that there is only one item of the agenda - the socio-political situation in the region.

“It’s a purely regional congress that will bring together some 3,000 delegates from across the region,” a representative of the organizing committee said. “We will adopt a resolution on the congress outcome. It’s premature to speak of it yet: it will become the result of the discussion.”

He said that taking part in the congress would be “only representatives of the Donetsk region, no Ukrainian presidential candidates are expected to appear at the congress.”

Ukrainian presidential candidate Mykhailo Dobkin said in a statement posted on the website of the Party of Regions on Tuesday that this congress “is aimed exclusively at the country’s preservation.” “Today those politicians who swear in our studio that they love the country, in actual fact are maximally splitting it,” he said. “If they really want to preserve the country, they should abandon the ultimatum language when talking to people.”
