TOKYO, October 4. /TASS/. Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party has failed to elect a new leader in the first round of vote.
The two candidates proceeding to the second round are Shinjiro Koizumi, son of ex-Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, and former Economic Security Minister Sanae Takaichi.
Takaichi gained a total of 183 votes, while Koizumi garnered 164. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi came third, gaining 134 votes.
The second round of voting will be held shortly.
