OTTAWA, March 13. /TASS/. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that March 13 will become his last day in office.
"This may be my last day here, in this office, but I will always be boldly and unapologetically Canadian," he said in a video address published on X. He added that he is proud to have served Canada and its people.
CTV television reported earlier that Mark Carney would take oath as Canada’s prime minister on March 14. According to the channel, the ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m. EDT (3:00 p.m. GMT) at the residence of Canada’s Governor General Mary Simon. Along with Carney, members of his cabinet will also be sworn in, but it is still unclear who they are. The channel’s sources said the incumbent Prime Minister Justin Trudeau would resign ahead of the ceremony.
On March 9, the ruling Liberal Party of Canada elected former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney as its new leader. He will serve as prime minister until the next parliamentary elections, which are currently scheduled for October 20. There is a chance that Carney could call an early election. Earlier, Trudeau said that he would step down as leader of the ruling party and resign as prime minister, but only after the liberals elect a new leader. Trudeau has been in office since 2015.
