Earlier, Hamas announced reaching an agreement with Israel on a four-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, with mediation from Qatar and Egypt. The Islamist movement confirmed that the deal would see the release of 50 women and children, aged under 19, in exchange for the release of 150 Palestinian women and children under 19 years of age from Israeli prisons.

In turn, the Israeli presidential office said that the government had approved a plan to return home at least 50 hostages and take a humanitarian pause for four days, following which the Israeli army would resume the fighting in the enclave.
