Ukraine’s Rada appoints Klimenko interior minister

According to Yaroslav Zheleznyak, Klimenko’s appointment was supported by 321 lawmakers

KIEV, February 7. /TASS/. Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (national parliament) has appointed Igor Klimenko to take the office of the country’s interior minister, which has been vacant since the death of Denis Monastyrsky in a helicopter crash near Kiev, lawmaker Yaroslav Zheleznyak said on Tuesday.

"The Rada has appointed Igor Klimenko as interior minister," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

According to Zheleznyak, Klimenko’s appointment was supported by 321 lawmakers.

A helicopter carrying Ukrainian interior ministry top officials crashed into residential quarters in the city of Brovary, in the Kiev region, on January 18. The crash victims included Interior Minister Denis Monastyrsky, his first deputy Yevgeny Yenin, and the ministry’s state secretary, Yury Lubkovich. On the same day, Klimenko was appointed acting interior minister.
