EU mission to train 30,000 Ukrainian servicemen, says foreign policy chief

The EU will also provide €25 million to support demining efforts in endangered areas, Josep Borrell stressed

BRUSSELS, February 2. /TASS/. An EU Military Assistance Mission will train 30,000 Ukrainian military, top EU diplomat Josep Borrell said on Thursday in Kiev.

"Glad to announce to PM [Denis Shmygal] that EU Military Assistance Mission (EUMAM) will train additional 15.000 Ukrainian soldiers, taking the total number of EUMAM trained personnel to 30.000," he wrote on Twitter.

"Also announced to the Prime Minister that [the] EU will provide €25 million to support demining efforts in endangered areas. Protecting civilians and their livelihoods is a priority," Borrell added.

Leaders of EU institutions are now in Kiev, where an EU-Ukraine summit will take place on February 3.
