Russian embassy in CAR confirms 4 DHL employees detained over Russian House attack case

PRETORIA, February 1. /TASS/. The Russian embassy in the Central African Republic (CAR) confirmed the apprehension of four DHL employees, suspected of involvement in the attempted murder of Russian House head Dmitry Sytyi.

"This information has been confirmed," a Russian diplomat told TASS Wednesday.

These arrests are not the first ones. On December 20, 2022, the police detained seven people, including post employees, who could have been connected to the attack. However, they were released after questioning.

On December 16, the Russian embassy reported that Sytyi was injured after a parcel sent to his name detonated. He was immediately hospitalized with severe injuries. The Russian Foreign ministry called the incident a terror attack. The CAR police investigate the incident.

According to CAR prosecution, the parcel containing an explosive device was sent to Sytyi’s name from Lome, the capital city of Togo, via a DHL office. It was delivered to Bangui by a Kenya Airways plane.

Security agencies have been examining surveillance camera footage along the parcel’s route for the last two months. Requests for additional information about the parcel have been filed by CAR intelligence to Togo and Germany, where the main DHL office is located.
