Kosovo Serbs announce plans to hold protests in institutions across Kosovo, Metohija

Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that talks between Belgrade and Pristina, which aimed to find a solution to the vehicle license plate issue in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, were fruitless

BELGRADE, November 22. /TASS/. Kosovo and Metohija Serb leader Goran Rakic on Tuesday said that Serbs will no longer tolerate harassment by Pristina and will hold protests in all establishments across the region.

"We have nowhere to go and I hope we won’t have to defend ourselves. People can no longer tolerate the torture carried out by Pristina. We will hold protests in schools, health centers and all other institutions. People are asking why we should pay tribute and [tolerate] cruelty. We didn’t pay the Turks, we won’t [pay Prime Minister of the unrecognized Kosovo Albin] Kurti," Rakic said, according to the Kosovo Online portal.

Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that talks between Belgrade and Pristina, which aimed to find a solution to the vehicle license plate issue in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, were fruitless.

On November 14, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said that Belgrade and Pristina would hold talks in Brussels regarding a dialogue between Serbia and unrecognized Kosovo with the mediation of the European Union. According to the official, an agreement needs to be reached by November 29 in order to avert a serious crisis.

Kosovo and Metohija Serbs quitted all government offices of the unrecognized Kosovo on November 5. The Serbs took the measures after the Kosovo government decided to levy fines on everyone who didn’t change their Serbian license plates to Kosovo's starting on November 22 of this year. Before April 21, 2023, the fines will amount to 150 euros, and afterward the Kosovo police will start seizing cars with Serbian license plates.
