Minsk opens criminal case against Ukrainian lawmaker Goncharenko

He was charged with threat of violence against the President of Belarus and with discrediting our country, Prosecutor’s Office spokeswoman Anzhelika Kurchak said

MINSK, August 25. /TASS/. The Prosecutor General’s Office of Belarus opened criminal cases against Ukrainian lawmaker Alexey Goncharenko, says Prosecutor’s Office spokeswoman Anzhelika Kurchak.

"He [Goncharenko - TASS] was charged with threat of violence against the President of Belarus and with discrediting our country," the spokeswoman said.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect made an online post in connection with the Belarusian President’s congratulation for the Ukrainian people with the Day of Independence of Ukraine. The post contains "a threat against Alexander Lukashenko, as well as false information about the political and social situation in Belarus."

"The illegal actions were classified under Article 366.2 and 369-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus," Kurchak said, adding that the criminal cases were forwarded to the Investigative Committee of Belarus.
