Venezuela's Embassy in Russia will follow Maduro's instructions — ambassador

Venezuelan Ambassador to Russia Carlos Rafael Faria Tortosa said the embassy is closely following the developments in Caracas

MOSCOW, January 24. /TASS/. Venezuela's Embassy in Russia will follow President Nicolas Maduro's instructions, Ambassador Carlos Rafael Faria Tortosa told TASS on Thursday.

"We will follow instructions of our constitutional president, Mr Nicolas Maduro. We do not accept that a self-proclaimed president will tell us what to do," he said.

"We are fully confident that our president was elected constitutionally," the ambassador added noting that the Venezuelan Embassy in Moscow is "closely following developments and awaiting instructions that may come from our government and foreign minister."

Earlier on Wednesday Venezuelan National Assembly Speaker Juan Guaido proclaimed himself as the country's acting president. Several countries recognized him as interim president, including Argentina, Brazil, Guatemala, Canada, Columbia Costa Rica, Paraguay, Peru, the United States, Chile and Ecuador.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has called it a coup organized by Washington and announced severing diplomatic relations with the United States.
