MOSCOW, February 21. /TASS/. Russia supports the current president of the international football federation FIFA Gianni Infantino’s nomination for another term of office, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets told TASS in an interview.

"Russia supported Infantino’s nomination," Golodets said. "What was achieved during the FIFA World Cup evokes great respect. Infantino is committed to Olympics principles in sports, he promotes opportunities for sports activities for different groups of the population. He is very active in supporting women’s sports."

"He has displayed all the very best personal qualities, too. He is educated and honest and a true professional," Golodets said.

At the beginning of February it became clear that Infantino will be the sole candidate for FIFA’s president in the forthcoming election due at the organization’s congress in Paris on June 5.

Infantino was elected FIFA president in February 2016 following a corruption scandal that forced his predecessor Joseph Blatter to step down. Infantino has implemented a package of reforms to improve FIFA’s finances and reputation.
