Russian airports to introduce additional measures against drone attacks — RBC

According to the source, the airports and their transport security services should learn to detect the model of a trespassing device as well as determine the potential ways of illegal interference using UAVs

MOSCOW, April 12. /TASS/. Russia’s Ministry of Transport has ordered to bolster protection measures against drone attacks at airports, RBC reports, citing the agency’s press service.

"Due to the heightened threats of illegal interference in the operations of transport facilities using remote action means, the Transport Ministry together with its subordinate agencies has developed recommendations on taking the necessary measures on protecting certain transport facilities from the illegitimate use of unmanned aerial vehicles," the ministry’s press service told RBC without specifying which measures should be taken.

A source familiar with the subject told the news outlet that the airports and their transport security services should learn to detect the model of a trespassing device as well as determine the potential ways of illegal interference using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Additionally, it is necessary to ensure measures on counteracting the threat of an explosion with the use of an UAV.

A representative of Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency declined to comment, RBC said.
