Four terrorists eliminated in Stavropol Region — National Antiterrorist Committee

MOSCOW, February 9. /TASS/. During a counter-terrorist operation in the Stavropol Region, law enforcement officers eliminated four terrorists who were planning a terrorist attack on a railway station, the public relations center of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAC) told TASS on Thursday.

"As a result of a counter-terrorist operation carried out by the NAC’s branch in the Stavropol Region, four radicals who had been planning a terrorist attack on the region's railway station were neutralized," the NAC said.

A search of the scene of the armed clash resulted in the recovery of a machine gun, a handgun and two makeshift bombs. One of the bombs was set off by the terrorists.

"The extremists are known to have been involved in the terrorist activities of a Ukrainian paramilitary nationalist group," the NAC said.

The chief of the FSB’s office for the Stavropol Territory ordered a counter-terrorist operation. Residents in nearby homes were evacuated. Those trapped in the house were urged to lay down their arms and surrender. In response, they opened fire on law enforcement officers and were killed in the shootout.
