Hainan to set up more than 90 new research centers in three years

HAIKOU /China/, May 28. /TASS/. The authorities of the southern Chinese province of Hainan intend to support enterprises in building more than 90 new research and development centers in the next three years, Hainan Daily reported.

The measures are proposed to further strengthen the province's potential as an innovation center. At present, Hainan has one national-level technology center and 24 similar provincial-level centers under enterprises, according to the newspaper. In 2023, local authorities have also approved 46 provincial-level engineering research centers for construction.

A representative of the provincial committee for development and reform siad that the next step is to approve and manage the science and technology innovation platform as a starting point, and support the most important enterprises to set up research institutes.

To achieve this, authoriteis plan to step up the work of consulting enterprises that meet appropriate requirements for the establishment of provincial and national level technology centers. It is also proposed to support enterprises up to 5 million yuan ($704,000) to build hardware and software for scientific research and no more than 5 million yuan to finance research projects. The province also plans to develop strategic projects to develop new industries.
