Creation of industrial park at Azovstal will take 10 years — authorities

Head of the government of the Donetsk People's Republic hopes that the plant would be cleared of mines within the first half of the year

DONETSK, February 5. /TASS/. The creation of an industrial park on the territory of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol will take at least 10 years, head of the government of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Vitaly Khotsenko said in an interview with TASS.

He explained that the plant received significant damage as a result of hostilities. Besides that, demining is still underway.

"An industrial park, an industrial technopark and an eco-industrial park will be created there. In addition, those workshops that are intact - we will restore operations there and attract residents. We will clean up the rest of the territory, and also attract residents - industrial enterprises who will create business there. This is not a quick project. It will take at least 10 years to fully clean up the site, restore energy, gas, water," the head of the government of the DPR said.

Khotsenko expressed the hope that the plant would be cleared of mines within the first half of the year.

"This year we set the task of demining, starting to clean the site and preparing a master plan for the development of the Azovstal territory," Khotsenko said.

On May 20, 2022, the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry Igor Konashenkov, announced that the Russian military had completely liberated the territory of the Azovstal plant, where the remnants of the Ukrainian group in Mariupol remained blocked.
