Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Xi Jinping on his re-election as general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, praising his high political authority, according to a copy of the telegram of congratulations published on the Kremlin website on Sunday.
"Dear Mr. Xi Jinping, please accept my warmest congratulations on your re-election as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. The results of the 20th Anniversary Congress of the CPC have fully confirmed your high political authority, as well as the unity of the party you lead," the telegram said.
The Russian leader expressed confidence that the decisions of the congress will help the successful implementation of China's large-scale social and economic tasks, as well as the strengthening the country's position on the international stage.
"I will be glad to continue our constructive dialogue and close joint work to develop comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation between our countries. From the bottom of my heart, I wish you, dear friend, new achievements in your important activities, good health and well-being," he said.
The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Sunday re-elected Xi Jinping as general secretary for a third five-year term. The vote took place at the first plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to retain his posts as the head of state and chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China.
