Russia sends another 95 rescuers to Myanmar to help with earthquake relief efforts

The rescuers will head to the areas that the earthquake hit the hardest, according to the Russian Emergencies Ministry

MOSCOW, March 31. /TASS/. The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said it is dispatching 95 more rescuers to Myanmar to help with the response to a recent earthquake.

"Two Il-76 airplanes of the Russian emergency management agency are about to take 95 specialists of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry to Myanmar. This additional team also includes canine units and medical workers," the ministry said.

The rescuers will head to the areas that the earthquake hit the hardest, according to the ministry. The team comes complete with rescue gear to locate victims and retrieve them from under the rubble.

"The importance of the Russian assistance was noted by the Myanmar authorities during a meeting of the task force for the earthquake relief efforts," the ministry said.

A powerful earthquake shook Myanmar on March 28, killing more than 2,000 people. Many nations, including Russia and China, as well as the World Health Organization, have sent personnel and resources to the country to help respond to the disaster.
