Russia to create medical research facility for developing cutting-edge medicines

The center will operate as a consortium incorporating 17 research institutions, and no legal entity will be established

MOSCOW, February 4. /TASS/. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has ordered to set up an R&D center for developing mRNA technology to produce breakthrough drugs, including for cancer treatment, the cabinet said.

The center will operate as a consortium incorporating 17 research institutions, and no legal entity will be established. The Gamaleya National Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology will act as the lead research body.

"The center will spearhead comprehensive efforts toward developing and producing innovative drugs based on mRNA technology for the treatment and prevention of various diseases, including severe ones," the cabinet specified.

According to it, earlier, around 600 million rubles ($6 million) was allocated from the government’s reserve fund for the manufacture of innovative mRNA-based medications.
