MOSCOW, October 23. /TASS/. The crews of Russian Solntsepyok heavy flamethrower systems destroyed three Ukrainian army strongholds in the Krasny Liman area over the past day in the special military operation in Ukraine, Russia’s Battlegroup Center Spokesman Alexander Savchuk reported on Monday.
"In the Krasny Liman direction, units of the battlegroup Center inflicted damage by firepower on about 180 enemy targets, including two areas of amassed Ukrainian military hardware. The crews of TOS-1A Solntsepyok heavy flamethrower systems destroyed three Ukrainian army strongholds," the spokesman said in a video uploaded on the Defense Ministry’s Telegram channel.
In the Serebryansky forestry area, the battlegroup’s artillery and army aircraft strikes inflicted damage on the personnel and military equipment of the Ukrainian army’s 67th mechanized brigade. In addition, Russian air defense systems shot down a HIMARS rocket and a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle near the settlements of Lisichansk and Kuzmino in the Lugansk People’s Republic, he said.
In counter-battery fire, Russian forces uncovered and suppressed about 30 enemy field artillery teams and destroyed a Ukrainian Kozak armored vehicle, the spokesman reported.
The TOS-1A Solntsepyok (Scorching Sun) is a flamethrower system based on the tank’s chassis. The flamethrower fires 220mm rockets with a thermobaric warhead. The Solntsepyok is designated to incinerate and destroy enemy manpower, combat hardware and fortifications with an enhanced blast.
