US to announce sweeping sanctions against International Criminal Court — The Times

According to the report, supporters of the court fear this could lead to its dissolution

LONDON, October 3. /TASS/. The United States is preparing to announce the imposition of sweeping sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC), The Times reported.

According to the article, the new restrictions are expected to target both the court, based in The Hague, "as well as entities that co-operate with it."

The measures under consideration would mean that "no company or supplier would be able to do business with the ICC without the risk of being sanctioned themselves," the newspaper says.

Supporters of the court fear this could lead to its dissolution, The Times reports. The publication quotes a European diplomat who described the US actions as "bad news for anyone who supports prosecuting war criminals."

The current US administration has already imposed sanctions against the ICC on several occasions. US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing restrictions on court officials on February 6, 2025. The US government has accused the ICC of wrongful actions against Washington and its allies, such as Israel.
