BRUSSELS, October 2. /TASS/. Businessman Mikhail Fridman will likely not gain access to a significant portion of his assets in Luxembourg, despite having been removed from the EU sanctions list last week following a political compromise between Luxembourg, France, and several other EU countries, Bloomberg wrote.
Fridman’s main assets in the EU include a 37.9% stake in LetterOne, a Luxembourg-headquartered multinational investment firm, according to the agency. As of the end of 2025, it managed assets worth $21.5 bln, as well as $500 mln in frozen dividends belonging to shareholders subject to EU sanctions, according to the company.
Experts interviewed by the agency expect European banks and other financial institutions to exercise greater caution regarding Mikhail Fridman’s assets as long as he remains on UK and US sanctions lists. The businessman’s ability to receive his dividends or other types of assets will be very limited until financial institutions in Luxembourg obtain relevant general licenses from US and UK regulators, the agency said.
