Poland raises risk of standoff with Russia by seeking more active NATO role — diplomat

It is reported that if Poland really aspires to strengthen peace and security, then the most direct path to it, as far as nuclear weapons are concerned, is first of all, NATO's rejection of the practice of nuclear missions

MOSCOW, April 4. /TASS/. Warsaw’s statements that it has plans to seek a more active role in the work of NATO raise the risks of a confrontation with Russia, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko told TASS on Tuesday.

"Naturally, these are irresponsible statements. They obviously raise the risk of a confrontation. We consider such statements both irresponsible and unacceptable," he said in comments on a recent statement by Jacek Siewiera, the head of Poland’s National Security Bureau, who stated that Warsaw is ready to play a more active role in NATO’s plans for nuclear deterrence of Russia.

"If Poland really aspires to strengthen peace and security, then the most direct path to it, as far as nuclear weapons are concerned, is first of all, NATO's rejection of the practice of nuclear missions, which is illegitimate and illegal from the perspective of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, that involves non-nuclear states, and the withdrawal of US nuclear weapons from the territory of European countries to national territories," the diplomat went on to say.
