Spokesman reveals why Putin has had fewer contacts with Macron, Scholz lately

Dmitry Peskov noted that the number of Putin’s contacts with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan has increased significantly

MOSCOW, October 24. /TASS/. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz do not want to listen to Moscow’s position and mediate in the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, explaining why Russian President Vladimir Putin has been communicating with these leaders less frequently.

"As for Mr. Macron and Mr. Scholz, they have simply displayed no desire recently to listen to Russia’s position and take part in any efforts on providing mediation services. This is why there have been fewer contacts recently," the spokesman told reporters Monday.

Meanwhile, Peskov noted that the number of Putin’s contacts with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan has increased significantly, because "Ankara takes a position that is different from the one that Paris and Berlin adhere to."

"Ankara declares its readiness to continue mediation efforts," the spokesman noted. He stressed that Putin has "repeatedly praised these Turkish mediation efforts."

"In addition, we have quite vast trade and economic relations, we implement various large projects," Peskov said, adding that "all this is a pretext for the heads of state to meet often."
