Russian diplomats discuss Palestinian-Israeli settlement with Abbas

MOSCOW, January 30. /TASS/. Russian presidential special envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershining have discussed Palestinian-Israeli settlement with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas during their visit to Ramallah, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

"The sides comprehensively exchanged opinions on securing a long-term negotiations solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in accordance with UN's decisions, the Arab Peace Initiative and bilateral agreements," the foreign ministry said. "They also discussed issues of restoring Palestinian unity," the ministry added.

Russian diplomats earlier visited Israel where they met with the country's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and held consultations with head of the National Security Council Meir Ben-Shabbat, Minister for Jerusalem Affairs Ze'ev Elkin, Mossad Director Yossi Cohen, and Director General of the Israeli Foreign Ministry Yuval Rotem. "The sides disccused recent developments in the region and in Syria, tasks of soonest promotion of political settlements in Syria on the basis of UN Security Council Resolution 2254, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country," the foreign ministry added.
